Keeper – My Brother’s Keeper – April 2025 Prayer Points
Brothers Keeper
My Brother’s Keeper
Traveling around Israel one gets the feeling of being protected. People look out for one another. It is true security guards and military seem to be everywhere, but ordinary citizens also will rush to protect another. It is a unifying power, this impression of being “my brother’s keeper.” David wrote in Psalm 133, “How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! It is like precious oil….For there the Lord bestows His blessing.” Psalm 133 is a “song of ascent.” This psalm was perhaps inspired by David’s ascent to the throne and gave a focal point to the twelve separate tribes to acknowledge David’s leadership. Their unity brought God’s protection and favor. Families traveling to Jerusalem for one of God’s appointed times (feasts) would sing this song.
One of God’s appointed times takes place from the evening of Sat, April 12 – Sun, April 20. The Passover holiday (Pesach), Feast of Unleavened Bread, and First Fruits combine to commemorate the miraculous exodus of the Hebrews from Egyptian slavery and celebrates the Messiah’s resurrection. It’s a focus point that will unite the Jewish people even though they are increasingly divided on their support of Israel’s leaders. This undermines national security. Their enemies grow bolder and rejoice claiming Israel is being destroyed from within. How good and pleasant it would be to live together in unity even when the people are not in complete agreement. Passover is a good time for the people to remember the song of ascent as they observe God’s appointed time this April.
“O you who love the Lord, hate evil! He preserves the lives of his saints; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked.” Psalm 97:10 ESV
